42 medals and historic achievements have been recorded by the Abu Dhabi Weightlifting Club during its short journey, placing the sport firmly on the local, Arab, and continental map. These accomplishments include international milestones that are considered firsts of their kind. The club has also revitalized this Olympic sport on a local level. Since its official launch in 2021 and the start of its foundational phase in April 2022, it has become a symbol of success—a journey that began with the organization of a talent discovery championship in February 2022 to select players for the newly established club. The strong start came in the UAE Cup, organized by the national weightlifting federation in Dubai, where Abu Dhabi Weightlifting Club secured second place. The club then marked its most prominent achievement when its duo, Moayad Al-Najjar and Ezzedine Al-Ghafir, adorned the national team’s performance with six gold medals—the first ever for the men's team in its history. This achievement marked a significant turning point, greatly enhancing the sport’s reputation across the Arab world. The club followed this with yet another milestone when its athlete, Ezzedine Al-Ghafir, won three bronze medals at the Asian Championship in Uzbekistan—also a first in the history of the national team. The accomplishment was celebrated by both the International and Asian Weightlifting Federations on their official websites, recognizing the symbolic and historic importance of the event. Just as the men’s team made a remarkable impact, the juniors also made their mark in their first international appearance. Player Ali Abdul Nasser Al-Hamiri won three gold medals, while Thunayan Omar Al-Hammoudi secured three bronze medals at the Qatar Cup, held alongside the Arab Championship in Doha. The event also witnessed Moayad Al-Najjar stepping onto the podium with three silver medals. The club’s women’s team also made an impressive showing at the UAE Cup in both the 2023 and 2024 editions, collecting a total of 12 medals, including a gold by Montserrat Velasquez, along with five silvers and six bronzes. On the men’s side, the team earned four gold medals and three bronzes, despite the absence of several key athletes in the second edition due to international commitments. In the Summer Championship hosted by the club with broad Arab participation, the men's and women's teams secured eight medals: three gold, four silver, and one bronze. Despite all these achievements, the club’s efforts have not slowed down. It continues to stay active through daily training, camps, and honorary participations, such as the African Clubs Championship in Cairo, where club athletes ranked first in three weight categories. However, due to the competition’s regulations, they were not allowed to step onto the podium. Nevertheless, the experience gained is expected to be of great value in both the short and long term, especially for the women’s team, which holds much promise alongside the men’s and juniors’ teams in upcoming competitions. While this impressive list of accomplishments has been achieved in a short span, it is seen as just the beginning of a long journey expected to be filled with future successes—especially as the club’s athletes now represent the national team and carry the UAE flag on international stages.
