The weightlifting team leaves for Bahrain today, to participate in the World Championships hosted by Manama, from December 6 to 15.
The team’s roster includes Abu Dhabi Club players Ezz El-Din Al-Ghafeer (109 kg), Moayed Al-Najjar (over 109 kg), and Al-Ittihad player Mai Al-Madani (64 kg).
The mission is headed by Sheikha Al Kaabi from the Football Association, and includes Abdul Rahman Muhammad, Maher Qarbi, coaches of the national team and Abu Dhabi Club, Khalifa Al Zaabi, director of support services at the club, and Omar Shaddad, club secretary.
Maher Qarbi confirmed that preparations are complete to present an honorable level in the tournament, which represents the first appearance of Al-Najjar and Al-Ghafir, and is considered the largest event in the game after the Olympics, indicating that their goal is to crown participation with a new achievement that coincides with the country’s celebrations of the 53rd Union Day.
Al-Qirbi said: “Preparations for the tournament began 3 months ago in an internal camp, which included morning and evening training, before the Abu Dhabi Club players joined a joint external camp hosted by Kazakhstan that lasted 24 days. I believe that the players are completely prepared in all aspects, and we thank the club’s management, especially the club.” Abdullah Issa Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Board of Directors, for providing moral and material support, so that Al-Ghafir and Al-Najjar will be at the peak of readiness to leave. An imprint on behalf of the national team in the great international competition.
It is noteworthy that Al-Najjar and Al-Ghafir previously presented the team with the first 6 Arab gold medals in the Cairo 2023 edition, and the latter received the first Asian medal in the history of the Emirates, when he won a “bronze” in the continental championship in Uzbekistan last February.
